Research and development

Research and development

For CUSTOM, innovation stems from research. The Group continuously carries out research and development activities aimed at expanding its product range and constantly improving technologies and their applications, in order to offer the combination of tools known as a "solution".
This process involves both sectors in which the Group has historically operated, such as retail, hospitality and manufacturing, as well as new business opportunities that cut across different contexts, including software development, service automation and data management.
This diversification has led to the creation of new complementary solutions, which are constantly growing and evolving.

The selection, assessment and implementation of each project take place through a structured "stage-and-gate" process involving all professionals engaged at every phase, from the initial idea through to production launch. This project management technique is particularly relevant today, as it makes it possible to analyse resources, risks and forecasts in detail in order to determine the best course of action in the development of a new product.
Lastly, the CUSTOM Group protects its know-how through the registration of a growing number of patents, now exceeding 30. This structure brings together a team of more than 250 engineers, technicians and developers, tackling increasingly advanced technological challenges.

CUSTOM technological innovations
over the years: a few examples

2001

Printers with Bluetooth®

CUSTOM anticipated the market back in 2001 when it introduced Bluetooth® to its printers as part of the S'PRINT launch, long before the technology became the widespread standard everyone knows today.

2003

VKP80 family

Launched in 2003, the VKP80 family changed the self-service world forever. The best-selling and most imitated kiosk printer was so innovative that it became a worldwide best-seller and has already reached its third product generation.

2004

Anti-jamming

As early as 2004 our Group designed and patented an anti-jamming system for kiosk printers. Thanks to this solution, even if a ticket is pulled before it is cut, the printer keeps running without jamming.

2006

Remote monitoring

In 2006 we introduced a remote monitoring system for CUSTOM printers equipped with an Ethernet interface. Well ahead of its time, this innovation makes it possible to monitor the status of our devices in real time.

2007

VeriPrint®

In 2007 CUSTOM patented VeriPrint®, an innovative anti-fraud solution. The hardware and software system automatically digitizes printer tickets, preventing print issues and counterfeiting: ideal for Aviation, Public Transport, and Lottery.

2010

Multi Bin

Developed in 2010, this system targets sectors like public transport and Aviation where check-in desks are limited yet multiple ticket types must be printed with a single device. Multi Bin offers up to three different input blocks for three distinct outputs.

2022

Green solutions: linerless printing and energy-saving technology

CUSTOM devices increasingly focus on environmental protection. Linerless printing, for example, reduces waste by eliminating the silicone backing and ensures greater autonomy thanks to 40% more material than a standard roll. Our solutions also feature energy-saving technology, meaning they consume no power when not in use.
